Found Fashion

I found a small box of photos of this woman at an antique store. There were pictures spanning at least 40 years of this woman's life. Some were with her children and husband but most were by herself. There were no dates or names on any of the images. What we do know about her based on the clothing and quantity of photos she was a woman of means and given that in one of them she is wearing a mans suit she was a bit of a rule breaker. I would say they were late 1800's early 1900's but that's just a guess.

  1. What a fabulous find. Could this be a precursor to what we now refer to as 'outfit posts' on blogs?

  2. This hat that she is wearing reminds me of so called "rogatywka", Polish cap used by soldiers of different formations since XVIII century. They were also worn by Polish women after 1863 (January Uprising) as a symbol of resistance against Russian occupation and by Hungarians during Spring of Nations (1848). It is still used in a different form in Polish Army and as a part of folk dress from Cracov.

Our woman is also wearing a military looking robe. Because the photo looks as it was taken during IWW, I suppose she might be Polish or Hungarian (or origins from Poland or Hungary).
