John Rawlings 1912 - 1970
Rawlings grew up in Ohio before moving to New York in the early 1930's. This amazing 20th century American photographer was hired by Conde Nast in 1936 as an assistant to Horst P. Horst and George Platt Lynes. Rawlings was sent to England in 1938 to set up a photography studio at British Vogue. Rawlings returned to America in 1940 and stayed at Conde Nast until the 1960's. In his time there he shot more than 200 magazine covers for Vogue and Glamour magazines. The 1940's and 1950's were important decades in American fashion that photographers like Rawlings helped to create and document.
Gorgeous, gorgeous, classic photo.
